Waiting…

We sat in darkness.

Our lungs lying damp.

Squeezed like lemons…

Waiting to fill again.

Like your light…

Can fill the room.

I stared at hands…

That weren’t my own.

Holding my wrist.

Holding my attention.

Shackled by the seconds

That can fill a lifetime…

If only you’d let them.

Your smile pacifies…

My selfish notions.

Shattering the microcosm…

That sometimes contains me

For those brief moments.

I want to get to my feet…

and provide you with something.

Something to warm you.

But then the light returns

Different, yet the same…

Flickering madly.

You pull me back

Because,

Just like me.

You’d hate it if I missed it.

You’d hate it if I missed anything.

Anything at all…
